Design Within Reach reimagines Portland’s oldest warehouse in the heart of the Pearl District.
Design Within Reach, the world's leading retailer of authentic modern furniture and accessories, has a fitting home in the heart of the Pearl District, Portland's original creative district. The location is a significant one—the historic Stagecraft Building—a two-story brick warehouse dating back to the 1890s, once a bustling distribution center for pottery and housewares. The setting is rich with character, blending the district's industrial past with the brand's modern design sensibility.
The building, owned and renovated by longtime Pearl District developer Al Solheim and his Hoyt Building Investors, was thoughtfully repurposed for creative office and retail use.
Positioned along the NW 13th Avenue rail line, the Stagecraft Building was Portland's oldest remaining warehouse, and its architectural integrity had been meticulously preserved. The original brickwork and warehouse shell remained untouched, offering a striking contrast to the sleek, modern design of the studio inside.
The Design Within Reach Space is a harmonious blend of historic preservation and forward-thinking design.
