August 2026 Events & Galleries in Portland's Pearl District

Events, art, and eats: the best reasons to leave the house in the last month of summer!

It's definitely hot in the Pearl this summer! Between the heat and the smoke, the weather in the Portland is very committed to keeping us indoors. There are, however, many excellent reasons to get outside: read on for the incredible events happening this August in the Pearl District. Don't forget your water, sunscreen, and whatever you need to stay safe in smoky air!

The Malarkey Is Now Open! An Ode to Portland Icons!

Portland has a somewhat unusual and sometimes notorious past: Tonya Harding became Portland's own Tony Soprano. The Jantzen Girl gracefully dove on Portland billboards. My Private Idaho (filmed around Portland) made us all feel something raw and gritty. It's all very old-school Portland and felt lost to history—until Brian Malarkey opened The Malarkey. It's the love letter to Portland we didn't know we wanted but desperately needed.

The menu is stellar! Chef Lalo Camarena's inspired cuisine creates an amazing dining experience set in psychedelic PNW. It's campy, it's cool, and it absolutely gets Portland in a way most places never will. We've been holding our breath for what feels like forever—and the time is finally here.

Centennial Mills Goes Up in Smoke

A four-alarm fire collapsed all eight floors of the 116-year-old Centennial Mills warehouse on Sunday afternoon, bringing nearly 100 Portland firefighters to the scene. The blaze that started around 3:50 p.m. spread so rapidly through the vacant structure that it quickly became a four-alarm response. - Portland Tribune.

The mill served the Portland waterfront for much of the 20th century before closing in 2000, and had become an iconic, and deteriorating, fixture of the Pearl District. Portland Fire & Rescue had previously reported smaller fires at the mill on a weekly basis: a graffitied landmark, a symbol of Portland's industrial past that refused to disappear.

Call for Entry:The Cat Show-

Blue Sky's 50th Anniversary Finale Is Here!

Blue Sky's celebrating 50 years of photography with a bang: a 12-exhibition anniversary series that ends with the one everyone's been waiting for. The Cat Show is here, and it's exactly what you think it is.

In 1976, Blue Sky hosted a legendary group exhibition called The Dog Show. Fifty years later, it's time to flip the script. Photographers and cats already have one thing in common: they're obsessed with light. Whether it's striking an iconic pose in their favorite sun spot or just being naturally photogenic, cats deserve the spotlight—and now it's their moment.

Blue Sky's Exhibitions Director C. Meier is calling for your most clever, curious, and chaotic feline companions. Funny snapshots? Thoughtful fine art? Moody portraits? All approaches welcome. This is a community exhibition, so think of it as your chance to celebrate Portland's (and the internet's) most iconic subject.
